PROF. DR. RUI XAVIER

Prof. Dr. Rui Xavier graduated in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Porto in 1989. He specialised in Otorhinolaryngology and Cervical and Facial Surgery at the Santo António General Hospital in Oporto and was awarded his specialist qualification in 1997. In 2004, he obtained the position of Consultant in Otorhinolaryngology.

He holds a PhD in Medical Sciences from the Universidade do Porto, with a Doctoral Thesis addressing the results of rhinoplasty.

In 2004, he resigned his position in the National Health System and started exclusively practicing private medicine.

Prof. Dr. Rui Xavier dedicates broad attention to facial plastic surgery and to aesthetic and functional nose surgery in particular. He has attended numerous courses and participated in many congresses dedicated to this specialist field of surgery. He completed several Rhinoplasty internships where he gained the opportunity to learn all the details and surgical techniques of rhinoplasty: in the Netherlands, he trained with Prof. Nolst-Trenite, in Canada, with Dr. Peter Adamson and in the United States with Dr. Steve Perkins, surgeons of recognised prestige.

He is a member of the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery and the Asian Society of Facial Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Rui Xavier is frequently invited to give conferences on rhinoplasty at Congresses both in Portugal and in Europe, America and Asia. He has authored several articles on rhinoplasty in international scientific journals as well as several chapters in scientific books published in Europe and the United States.
